Senka Perfect Whip: The Iconic Japanese Foam Cleanser

Original Senka Perfect Whip vs Premium Whip: Key Difference

Best Souvenir from Japan Senka Perfect Whip Foam Cleanser

About Senka's perfect whip

Best souvenir in Japan

These days, there are many foam cleansers on the market, but the original blue Senka Perfect Whip used to be a “must-buy” item when visiting Japan — even 10 years ago.

Senka's perfect whip vs Premium perfect whip

On my most recent trip to Japan, I picked up what I thought was a special limited edition of the Senka Perfect Whip called “Premium Perfect Whip.” However, I later realised it wasn’t actually from the original brand. I had assumed it was just another version of Senka’s lineup and only later discovered that the original Senka is made by Shiseido, whereas the Premium Whip is manufactured by Cosparade, which is a private-label brand sold at Don Quijote (also known as Donki).

The packaging and colour are almost identical to the original, and the price is cheaper, so I think some people, like me, might have accidentally bought it thinking it was the original Senka product.

Review after using : A slight texture difference between the Senka Perfect Whip and the Premium Perfect Whip

Having used both, I can say that the cleansing experience is actually pretty good for both. They lather easily with water, produce plenty of foam, rinse off cleanly, and don’t leave any residue. I also didn’t experience any allergic reactions to either product.

The Premium Whip feels slightly richer and heavier, while the Senka Perfect Whip is more watery and lightweight, making it a little easier to apply and spread. I deliberately compared them for this review, but honestly, the difference in texture is minor and both perform well.

Main ingredients l Are there any ingredients we might be concerned about?

Both products share the same main surfactants: Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, and Lauric Acid. Additionally, the Premium Whip includes Disodium Lauroyl Glutamate — an amino acid–based surfactant commonly used in products for sensitive skin.

In terms of safety, the surfactants, emulsifiers, and moisturisers used in both products are generally considered safe according to the EWG database.

Both products contain fragrance. The Senka Perfect Whip has a mild floral scent, while the Premium Whip also has a scent, though it’s more subtle.

The Premium Whip contains Potassium Hydroxide, which is alkaline and used to adjust pH. However, it may potentially disrupt the skin’s natural pH balance and cause dryness. The original Senka Perfect Whip uses Citric Acid for pH adjustment, which also provides mild exfoliating benefits but can cause irritation in dry or sensitive skin types.

Overall review

Do both products come in a sample size?

Whether a product is “good” or “bad” really depends on your skin condition, so it’s best to try it out in advance. While the Premium Whip doesn’t come in sample sizes, the original Senka Perfect Whip is available in smaller travel-size versions, which makes it easier to test first.

On what basis should I choose between these two products?

Although both products use the same base surfactants, the Cosparade Premium Whip also includes additional mild surfactants like Cocamide DEA and PEG-8, along with Lauryl Betaine, which helps reduce irritation — especially for sensitive skin. It also contains most of the same moisturising ingredients found in the original Senka version, plus a few extra ones: Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium PCA, and Allantoin.

So, if you’re looking for something with stronger cleansing power to remove makeup and care for clogged pores, the original Senka Perfect Whip might be a better choice. But if you wear light makeup and want to focus on hydration and gentler ingredients, the Premium Whip could be more suitable.

However, both are quite alkaline with a pH of 8, so if you have sensitive skin, it would be better to use a product with a pH of 5–6, which is closer to the skin's natural pH.

The one on the left, which is the Premium Whip, shows a pH level of 8, and the one on the right, Senka Perfect Whip, also shows the same result.
