Netflix series Karma Review: A 6 Episode Thriller Full of Suspense

Korean Netflix Series “Karma” Review: Thrilling, Suspenseful, and Perfect for a Weekend Binge

Why We Chose “Karma”

After finishing “When Life Gives You Tangerines”, my husband and I were on the lookout for a new Korean drama to watch. The title of this series immediately caught our attention—my husband is a firm believer in karma, and it’s a topic he often brings up in daily life.

When we checked the genre and saw that it combined thriller, suspense, mystery, and investigation, we were instantly intrigued. These are exactly the types of stories we enjoy the most.

The cast also raised our expectations. All the main actors are highly regarded in Korea for their strong performances, and thanks to Netflix, we could watch them all in a single series.

About the Series

“Karma” is a Korean Netflix series adapted from a webtoon that ran from 2019 to 2020. The original Korean title roughly translates to “An Ill-Fated Relationship”, but for international audiences, it was renamed Karma.

The series features six main characters and consists of six episodes, each approximately 50 minutes long. Here are the episode titles:

  • The Man with Loan Shark Debt
  • The Man Who Disposed of a Body
  • The Unrighteous
  • The Woman Trapped in the Past
  • Rewind
  • Karma

The story begins with a desperate man who hires an illegal Chinese immigrant to kill his father for insurance money. From there, the plot unfolds into a dark and complex web of actions and consequences, showing how one person’s choices can ripple and affect others in unexpected ways.

The title Karma perfectly captures the essence of the story: “You brought it upon yourself.”

Why I Loved This Series

One of the best things about Karma is that it’s a short series, so the story moves quickly and stays intense. There’s never a dull moment—each episode keeps you on edge, curious to see what happens next. My husband and I actually finished all six episodes in just two weekdays after work!

The series also includes a few clever twists, which makes guessing the plot fun. I personally enjoy closed endings, and Karma wraps up the story in a satisfying way, unlike some open-ended series that leave you hanging.

🙅 A note of caution: the series deals with heavy and uncomfortable topics such as murder, body disposal, rape, affairs, threats, and arson, so it’s definitely not light viewing.

My Personal Thoughts

While some plot points were predictable and the beginning focused heavily on story setup, I found Episode 4, which centres on the doctor, slightly weaker than the others. Still, the series was highly enjoyable overall.

Watching Karma even made me want to read the original webtoon! And the watch shown at the end hints at a possible Part 2, which is exciting for fans.
Final Verdict

If you’re a fan of thrillers, suspense, and mystery-driven Korean dramas, Karma is a short but impactful series worth your time. With strong acting, a gripping storyline, and satisfying closure, it’s perfect for a weekend binge-watch.
