Complete Guide to Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo

Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo Review | Tickets, Location, Highlights & Tips

Hogwarts Castle Miniature Model at Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo – Grand Finale Exhibit

Why I Visited

When I visited the Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo, it had only been open for about four months. Normally, I always read reviews carefully before going somewhere or buying tickets. But this time was different—I didn’t even bother. As a Harry Potter fan, I knew this was a must-visit, no matter what others said.

Location & Accessibility

The studio is located near Toshimaen Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. From the moment you arrive at the station, it feels like your magical journey has already begun.

  • Seibu Ikebukuro Line: Get off at Toshimaen Station, then walk about 5 minutes.
  • Oedo Line (Tokyo Metro): Exit at Toshimaen Station (Exit A2).

Just follow the crowd of visitors heading in the same direction—you won’t get lost.

Entry & Facility

Advance booking only: Tickets must be purchased online through the official website or platforms like Klook.

  • No on-site sales: Walk-ins are not allowed.
  • Timed entry system: Choose your entry time when booking.
  • Quick check-in: Simply scan the QR code on arrival.

The tour takes at least 4 hours (without shopping). I recommend booking a slot at least 5 hours before closing so you don’t have to rush.

Gift Shop

There is a large souvenir shop in the lobby. You can visit it at the beginning or the end of your tour, but I recommend saving it for the end so you don’t have to carry your purchases around.

Luggage Store

There are two types of lockers—indoor and outdoor.

  • If you only have a small bag, use the outdoor lockers. They require a 100 yen deposit and help save time since you can skip the lines.
  • For larger bags, there is a free storage area on the first floor. However, depending on the crowd, you might need to wait to store your luggage.

Highlights of the Tour

1) Set Exploration

You’ll step into iconic Harry Potter film sets, such as:

  • Forbidden Forest
  • Potion Classroom & Library
  • Gryffindor Common Room
  • Dursleys’ House
  • Hagrid’s Hut
  • The Room of Requirement
  • Diagon Alley
  • Great Hall
  • Platform 9 ¾ with the Hogwarts Express
  • Moving Staircases & the Knight Bus so on!
Each area is incredibly detailed and perfect for photos—it truly feels like walking inside the wizarding world.

2) Interactive Experiences

  • Act inside a moving portrait frame
  • Cheer during a Gryffindor vs. Slytherin Quidditch match

  • Create magical teleportation in the fireplace
  • Create a video of flying on a broomstick

These activities make the tour extra engaging, even for non-fans.

3) Behind-the-Scenes Exhibition

The second half of the tour feels more like a museum. You’ll see:

  • Film background music setups
  • Actors’ makeup and prosthetics
  • Original costumes and props used in filming
The grand finale is the breathtaking Hogwarts miniature model—a stunning piece that left me completely speechless.

Food & Butterbeer

  • The food was pricey and not particularly impressive.
  • Since the tour requires lots of walking, I recommend bringing light snacks like energy bars or chocolate. - Bags are checked at the entrance. Outside food is technically allowed, but it must be eaten only in the cafeteria area. We brought a few small energy bars in our pockets, which was fine.
  • But one thing you must try here is Butterbeer. - > I’ve had it at both the Tokyo Studio and Universal Studios Osaka, and the Tokyo Studio version tasted far better.

 Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • A must-visit for Harry Potter fans
  • Plenty of fun for non-fans too (interactive games, immersive sets)
  • Stunning photography opportunities everywhere
  • Impressive Hogwarts miniature as the finale

Cons:

  • Expensive food, with average quality
  • Requires at least 4–5 hours, so plan your schedule accordingly

Final Thoughts

Even though I’m a Harry Potter fan and my husband isn’t, we both enjoyed the studio tour equally. He even admitted it was one of the highlights of our Japan trip. If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo, the Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo is an unforgettable experience you shouldn’t miss.
